核心规则(Grammar Core)

这个节点为什么独立存在?

KET 阶段的 连词 Conjunctions 节点解决了”怎么把两个分句粘成一个长句”——and / but / so / because / when / although。

PET 阶段要解决一个全新问题:怎么把两个完整句子粘成一个段落。这就需要 linking adverbs(连接副词)——一类不是连词、但起连接作用的词:however / therefore / moreover / nevertheless…

KET 思维(句内连接):
I was tired, but I kept studying. ← but 是连词,粘合两个分句

PET 思维(句间连接):
I was tired. However, I kept studying. ← however 是副词,粘合两个独立句子

核心区别:连词把分句焊接在一起(一个句子);连接副词把独立句子串联起来(仍是两个句子)。

连接副词 · 五大功能分类

功能连接副词例句
转折however / neverthelessI studied hard. However, I failed.
追加moreover / furthermore / besidesThe book is cheap. Moreover, it’s well-written.
结果therefore / thus / consequently / as a resultHe didn’t study. Therefore, he failed.
对比on the other hand / in contrastMy brother loves football. On the other hand, I prefer reading.
举例for example / for instanceI love sports. For example, I play tennis and basketball.
总结in short / in conclusion / to sum upThe exam was hard. In short, I survived.

标点规则 · 三个位置

连接副词的标点是 PET Writing 评分的核心——必须严格掌握:

位置标点例句
句首(最常用)副词 + 逗号The test was hard. However, I passed.
句中; + 副词 + 逗号The test was hard**; however,** I passed.
句尾逗号 + 副词 + 句号The test was hard. I passed**, however**.

❌ 错误:The test was hard, however I passed.(逗号不够,必须用分号或句号)

连接副词 vs 连词 vs 介词短语 ⚠️ 三方对比

PET 阅读经常考”同义改写”——同一个意思可以用三种结构表达:

关系连词(句内)连接副词(句间)介词短语
转折but / althoughhowever / neverthelessdespite / in spite of + n
原因because / sincebecause of / due to + n
结果sotherefore / thusas a result of + n
追加andmoreover / furthermorein addition to + n
目的so thatin order to / to + V

例子三连

连词: Although it rained, we went out.
连接副词: It rained. However, we went out.
介词短语: Despite the rain, we went out.

PET Writing Part 1 句型转换题的核心策略——记住每种关系的三种表达,转换自由切换。

despite / in spite of ⚠️ 后接什么?

中国学生最大的陷阱:despite 和 in spite of 是介词短语,后面只能接名词或 V-ing,不能接整句!

✅ Despite the rain, we went out. (+ 名词)
✅ Despite raining heavily, we went out. (+ V-ing)
✅ In spite of being tired, I kept reading. (in spite of + V-ing)
✅ Despite the fact that it rained, ... (+ the fact that 从句)

❌ Despite it rained, we went out. (错!despite 不能接完整句)

对比 although

✅ Although it rained, we went out. (although + 完整句)

linking adverbs 在 PET Writing 100 词作文中的作用

PET Writing Part 2 要求 100 词,评分核心之一就是”句间连接是否流畅”。看一段缺乏连接副词 vs 富含连接副词的对比:

❌ 弱版本(80 词,全是简单句):

I love reading. It is fun. It teaches me new things. I read every day. My favourite book is Harry Potter. I have read it five times. Reading helps me sleep. I always read before bed.

✅ 强版本(100 词,连接副词丰富):

I love reading. **First of all**, it is fun and never boring. **Moreover**, it teaches me new things about the world. **For example**, last month I learned about ancient Rome from a novel. **However**, my favourite book is still Harry Potter, **which** I have read five times. **In addition**, reading helps me sleep better. **Therefore**, I always read for 30 minutes before bed. **In conclusion**, reading is the best habit I have ever developed.

第二个版本拿满分。差别不在词汇——在句间逻辑可见性

高级转折链:not only…but also / either…or / neither…nor

PET 阶段开始接触配对连词——两个词配合使用:

配对用法例句
not only…but also不仅……而且Aaron is not only smart but also kind.
either…or要么……要么I’ll either call or text you.
neither…nor既不……也不He neither smokes nor drinks.
both…and既……又She speaks both Chinese and English.
as…as和……一样Aaron is as tall as his brother.
the more…the more越……越The more I read, the more I learn.

⚠️ 主谓一致:not only A but also B / either A or B / neither A nor B 的谓语**跟 B(最近的那个)**一致: Neither Aaron nor his friends are here.(are 跟 friends)

Aaron 的 PET 写作进化史

4 月作文(KET 风格 · 全靠 and / but / so): “I went to the park. And I saw a dog. And the dog was big. But I was not scared. So I played with it. And it was fun.”

6 月作文(开始用 PET 进阶连词): “Last weekend I went to the park, where I saw a large dog. Although it was much bigger than me, I wasn’t scared. In fact, I played with it for an hour. Moreover, I learned that the dog’s name was Max. In conclusion, it was a perfect afternoon.”

8 月作文(PET 满分级别): “Despite my initial fear, last Saturday turned out to be unforgettable. While walking through the park, I encountered a large, friendly dog called Max. Not only was he gentle, but he also seemed to understand my mood. Furthermore, his owner—who turned out to be my neighbour—invited me to walk him every week. As a result, I now have a part-time job at the age of 12.”

A is true. (主张)
However, B is also true. (反驳)
Therefore, the truth lies somewhere in between. (综合)

中文议论文常用”然而、不过、但是”,但中文允许大段陈述不被打断;英语则强制要求每个论断后必须有 however 类转折——这种”逻辑张力”是英语作为科学和法律语言的基因。

PET 写作评分里,用 however 替代 but 是 B1 → B2 最明显的标志。Aaron 学会熟练用 however,等于拿到了进入英语学术语境的入场券。

📖 Real English · 真实阅读

🔵 Why I Changed My Mind About Reading

I used to think reading was boring. In fact, I avoided books for years. However, last summer something changed. My grandfather gave me a battered old copy of The Little Prince. At first, I refused to read it. Nevertheless, one rainy afternoon, with nothing else to do, I opened it. To my surprise, I finished it in one sitting. Moreover, I cried at the ending. Since then, I have read 47 books. In conclusion, the boy who hated reading has become the boy who can’t stop. As a result, my friends now ask me for recommendations. Funnily enough, I always tell them to start with The Little Prince.

🔵 Should Schools Ban Phones?

Many people believe schools should ban phones. First of all, phones distract students from learning. Moreover, they encourage cyberbullying. In addition, some students use them to cheat on tests. However, phones also have benefits. For example, they can be used for research and translation. Furthermore, in emergencies, phones save lives. On the other hand, the negative effects might outweigh the positive ones. In my opinion, schools should not ban phones entirely. Instead, they should teach students how to use them responsibly. After all, banning something doesn’t teach self-control—but learning to use it wisely does.

🔵 The Two Halves of Tokyo

Tokyo is two cities pretending to be one. On the one hand, it is the most modern city in Asia—a place of neon lights, robots, and bullet trains. On the other hand, it is also one of the oldest, with shrines that have stood for 1,400 years. Despite the constant change, traditions remain. For instance, every spring, millions gather under cherry trees to drink sake—a custom from the 8th century. Nevertheless, just a few streets away, teenagers are using AI assistants to order ramen. In short, Tokyo doesn’t choose between past and future—rather, it lives in both at once. As a result, visitors often feel they have traveled through time without leaving the city.
